Locking Your Vault
Protect your locker with a vault passphrase, Face ID or biometric unlock, and automatic lock.
The vault passphrase
During setup you chose a vault passphrase. It derives the key that encrypts every record, attachment, and backup on the device—and VeraLocker never stores it or sends it anywhere. There is no recovery link: if the passphrase is lost, so is the vault.
Add a faster unlock
Biometrics use a hardware-backed key in your device's secure storage as a shortcut to your vault, so you can unlock with Face ID or fingerprint without typing the passphrase each time.
- 1 Open Settings, then Security.
- 2 Enable biometric unlock and confirm with a Face ID or fingerprint scan.
- 3 Choose an inactivity timeout for when VeraLocker stays open without interaction.
Automatic locking
VeraLocker locks your vault when the app enters the background, such as when you switch apps or turn off your screen. The Auto-lock setting controls a separate inactivity timeout while the app stays open; the default is 15 minutes. Choosing Never disables that inactivity timer, but does not turn off background locking. Temporary system dialogs do not trigger a lock just because the app briefly becomes inactive. Some camera, file-picker, and sharing flows temporarily pause background locking so you can complete the action.
Returning to your vault
Unlock with biometrics or your vault passphrase to continue. After a lock, VeraLocker restores your previous screen and navigation history within the current app session. Scanners return to the preceding screen, and opening a notification or shared file may take you to that content instead. Unsaved form changes and scroll positions are not guaranteed to survive a lock, and your place is not retained if the app restarts. Save changes before leaving the app.
Privacy shield
When the app is in the background or locked, its screen is covered by a privacy overlay so previews in the app switcher don't expose anything sensitive. This works together with a strong device passcode as the outer layer.
