Encrypted Backups

Create a passphrase-encrypted backup file you control, and make sure a copy lives somewhere other than your phone.

Why a backup file

Your vault lives on your device, and there is no cloud copy on the VeraLocker side to fall back on. An encrypted backup file is the spare: a single file with every item, attachment, reminder, and share contact. The vault carries over by phone-to-phone transfer when you upgrade on the same platform—but a backup file also bridges a platform switch or a wiped phone, and covers you if the phone itself is lost or trouble strikes.

A backup on the phone is a backup on the phone

VeraLocker doesn't include cloud backup. Backup files live in the app's private folder on your device—unless you take the extra step, they exist in exactly the same place as the vault they're protecting. On iPhone the Backups folder shows up in the Files app (On My iPhone → VeraLocker), so the files are right there to copy; on Android other apps can't read that folder, and the app's backup list shares a file to anywhere you choose. Make the copy count: your computer, your own cloud drive, or wherever else you trust. That second place is yours to choose and control.

Automatic backups after each unlock

Automatic backups are one switch for the whole app—they apply to every profile on the device, with no per-profile settings. Turn them on once in your profile settings under Device, and whenever you unlock a profile after the interval has passed, VeraLocker quietly writes a fresh encrypted backup. Each profile's backups are encrypted with that profile's vault passphrase, so a simple unlock is all the app needs to keep them current. The five most recent automatic backups are kept per profile; older ones are cleaned up on their own.

Create a manual backup

Backups are encrypted end-to-end with the passphrase you choose.

  1. 1 Open your profile settings, then Backup & Restore.
  2. 2 Choose Export and set a backup passphrase. This is required to restore, and only you have it.
  3. 3 Copy the exported file off the phone—from the Files app on iPhone, or by sharing it from the app on Android—save it to your computer or your own cloud storage.
  4. 4 Repeat after meaningful vault changes, turn on Automatic backups for a steady baseline, and lean on the backup reminders the app schedules for you.

Restore a backup

On a new device or a fresh install, open Settings > Backup, import the file, and enter the passphrase—on iPhone you can import straight from the Backups folder, and a shared Android backup arrives like any other download. The vault, attachments, and share contacts come back together. See Restoring Your Data for the full walkthrough, including how same-platform phone transfers skip this step entirely.

Losing the passphrase

A backup you can't open is as gone as a vault with no passphrase. Automatic backups unlock with that profile's vault passphrase; a manual export unlocks with the passphrase you set while exporting. Store both as carefully as the files themselves.
